Spratt visits flooded homes in Belfast

South Belfast DUP MLA Jimmy Spratt has spoken of the distress witnessed amongst homeowners who have seen their properties flooding by the heavy rain in Belfast today. Mr Spratt visited properties off the

Ravenhill Road
on Saturday evening which where flooded.

Commenting, Jimmy Spratt said:

‘Having spent several hours in streets affected off the

Ravenhill Road
, it is very distressing to see the situation faced by homeowners in the area. Unfortunately we have raw sewage in homes, and many properties are very badly damaged indeed. Homeowners are obviously very upset and concerned about their properties and what can be done to help them.

So far, the response from Roads Service and NI Water has been nothing short of a disgrace. Help lines do not seem to be operational, and I am yet to witness any swift action in the area to tackle the problems as a result of the flooding. I will be raising this matter with the Minister for Regional Development, Conor Murphy, as a matter of urgency.’

Commenting further, Mr. Spratt said:

‘I have spoken to my DUP colleague and Minister for the Environment, Sammy Wilson, who assures me he will take the necessary measures to bring emergency relief to homeowners affected, similar to the swift response we saw after the serious flooding of last year. I am confident my colleague Sammy Wilson will do all he can to alleviate the problems faced by those affected.

In the meantime if people need advice I would encourage them to contact my Advice Centre on the

Cregagh Road
