Spratt welcomes decision to retain transitional pay for PSNI

South Belfast DUP MLA and Policing Board Member Jimmy Spratt has welcomed the decision taken by the Northern Ireland Office to retain the current level of transitional pay for members of the PSNI.

Commenting, Mr Spratt said:

‘The decision by the Northern Ireland Office to retain current levels of transitional pay is very welcome news indeed. As a party we in the DUP have raised this matter at the Policing Board, and indeed it was spoken of in the Assembly chamber during yesterday’s debate on dissident activity.

At a time when the police service is under attack from dissident republicans, it is important that the PSNI receive what they are fully entitled to in terms of transitional pay and that they know they have the full backing of decision makers at this time of continued threat.

The PSNI and Police Federation are to be congratulated on the work done in ensuring this reduction is deferred and I hope it acts as a morale boost for officers in the service.’
