Spratt delight at securing parade for returning Ulster medics from Afghanistan

South Belfast DUP MLA and Castlereagh Borough Councillor Jimmy Spratt has expressed his delight at securing a parade and civic reception for 62 medics from 204 Squadron (North Irish) Field Hospital (Volunteer) in the Borough of Castlereagh, on their return from Afghanistan. Mr Spratt was delighted to have received the unanimous support of fellow Castlereagh Councillors to a motion he proposed at a meeting of the Council last night.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Spratt said:

‘The gallant service of the medical corps in Afghanistan is a vital part of the war against the Taliban in that country. Unfortunately we hear, almost daily, of injury to our troops fighting against terrorism and as medics in a war situation have to work under attack, such heroism deserves recognition.

As such, I was delighted that my motion to honour the medics from 204 Squadron (North Irish) Field Hospital (Volunteer) received the unanimous support of Castlereagh Borough Council. I am sure the people of Castlereagh and further afield will take to the streets to honour our brave servicemen and women and show our appreciation for the work done in Afghanistan. The parade will be followed by a Civic Reception as further mark of recognition to our returning heroes.

The DUP are working hard to secure such events in order to give returning servicemen the honour and recognition they deserve. We should give each and every one of them the warm welcome home they are worthy of and I look forward to this event in Castlereagh being one of many such parades across the country.’
